Release of “Binn an tSíorsholais” for Orchestra on Parma's Navona label as part of Legends and Light Volume 3

“Binn an tSíorsholais”, which means “The Peak of Eternal Light” in the Irish language, is a composition for an orchestra whichis divided into 3 groups, spatially arranged. It was commissioned by the Radio Teilifís Éireann Living Music Festival in 2004 for performance during the 2005 festival. The work is inspired by the idea that because there is no tilt in the lunar axis of rotation, there is a place at one of the lunar poles where the sun is always visible, except during an eclipse of the sun by the earth. The piece was recorded in February 2022 by the Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra under conductor Jiri Petrdlik.

hear Cusp on YouTube

As part of 40 years of the Tyrone Guthrie Centre Celebrations, the centre is showcasing works created there in the past. Cusp for violin and piano was partially composed in the centre, and I made this simple video featuring the first movement of the piece as performed and recorded by Louis Roden and Réamonn Keary. Click the link below and it will take you to the Tyrone Guthrie Centre YouTube channel’s post of the video.
